Joseph C. Yates Biography |
Joseph Christopher Yates (1768 - 1837) was born and died in Schenectady, New York. He was elected mayor of Schenectady (1798) and elected to the state senate. Yates was a justice of the state Supreme Court and governor of New York (1823 - 1824).
Yates County, New York is named after Yates, who approved the act that formed the county. He was also a founder of Union College in Schenectady, New York. |
